Downtown Idaho Falls has the tightest group of bars in the city: taphouses, pubs and old-style lounges on Park Avenue, Shoup Avenue, A Street and First Street, close enough to walk between. Across the river, Lindsay Boulevard has grills and hotel lounges near the River Walk, and neighborhood bars and sports grills are scattered out along Broadway, Yellowstone Highway and Holmes Avenue.

Idaho is a control state. Liquor and wine over 16 percent alcohol are sold only through the state's own liquor stores, so a grocery run will not cover a bottle of whiskey. Beer and ordinary wine are in the grocery aisle.
